Shawn Nelson's Bio

Shawn Nelson was born in Flint, Michigan and moved to Northeast Ohio as a small child. He'd grown up loving anything in the outdoors, whether its was fishing, camping, or hiking. His love for the outdoors turned him on to hunting, Shawn's favorite pastime. As a deer hunter he spends most his time in the Fall and Winter in the woods chasin' whitetails.

Shawn attended Harvey High School in Painesville, Ohio. While there, he got a job working on a horse farm. Ever since then he has had a love for horses. He began breaking and training horses, working with some of the best trainers in Ohio.

Shawn had seen his first rodeo by the age of 17. Growing up in Ohio you really don't get to see many rodeos, but he was instantly addicted. Shawn talked to everyone, trying to find a rodeo where he could ride a bull. Shortly after, he got onto his first bull.

Shawn rode bulls for two years at many opens shows, but always respected and admired the bullfighters. At a rodeo in which he was riding, he discovered they were short a bullfighter. Shawn had bragged to his buddies that he believed he could fight bulls. One of the other bullfighters said "I hear you said you want to fight bulls", so Shawn borrowed some gear a helped out that night. He didn't end up riding, but he did get his entry fee paid plus a little extra for "helping out". Ever since then he's been hooked. Ha Shawn attended classes in Valley City, ND in 2000 to improve his skills as a cowboy protector and strongly believes no matter if your a Rookie or a seasoned vet everyone has room to grow. He once said "If I ever quit learning I'll quit getting in front of bulls".

Shawn has since then gained the respect of bull riders across the country. He continues today working cowboy protection and freestyle events at rodeos across the United States.
